Medical Immediate Action for High Risk Environments


This course is designed for people with little or no previous first aid training and seeks to provide participants with the skills and confidence to act in an emergency. The curriculum has been designed to focus on the trauma injuries that may be sustained by various mechanisms in high risk environments, including:

  • High and low velocity projectiles
  • Blast and concussion
  • Blunt trauma
  • Burns

The topics covered include:

  • How to initiate a Field Medical Card or patient record
  • Conduct a Patient evaluation
  • Universal Precautions
  • Manage Airway & breathing problems
  • Manage Bleeding injuries & burns
  • Manage Chest injuries
  • Orthopaedic injuries and management
  • Head & spine injury interventions & support
  • Environmental injuries
  • Request a Medical Evacuation
  • Evacuate a Casualty Using a Improvised Litter


The course is run over 16 hours with a maximum group size of 10 people, per instructor.
